Thank you for your interest in Sahuarita Indoor Percussion Cadets! I am extremely excited to to bring the success of our high school group to grades 7-8 at Sahuarita Middle School and Wrightson Ridge!

What is Indoor Percussion?

Indoor Percussion consists of marching battery instruments (Snare drum, tenor drums, bass drums, and cymbals), and front ensemble (bells, xylophone, vibraphone, marimba, auxiliary percussion, and synthesizer). It is very similar to marching band, but without wind instruments and we march on a basketball court. We create a full thematic production through movement and music.

Who can join?

Students enrolled at SMS or Wrightson Ridge currently in 7th and 8th grade can participate. Special consideration will be given to 6th grade percussionists. Knowing how to read music is preferred, but students with a willingness to learn are welcome. You don’t have to be a percussionist to join! In our high school group, more than half of the performers play wind instruments or have never played music at all!

**Students must be in good academic standing to join.

What will I play?

Instrument assignments will be determined by skill level and best fit for the overall success of the group. There are only a specific amount of spots on each instrument.

Rehearsal Schedule

• Mondays & Wednesdays after school until the activity bus (no practice if there’s no school)
• Thursday, February 20 – 12:00pm-6:00pm
• Thursday, March 19 – 12:00pm-6:00pm

We may add additional rehearsals later in the season, but nothing excessive.

Performance Schedule

• Friday, February 21 – SHS Indoor Percussion Competition (ALL DAY)
• Thursday, March 26 – SHS Winter Arts Showcase (After school until 8:00pm)
• Saturday, April 4 – WGAZ State Championships @ ASU Desert Financial Arena (ALL DAY)

What is the cost?

We are fortunate enough to have instructional staff, registration fees, music, and instruments provided by the district. However, this doesn’t cover all of our expenses. We expect performers to contribute a $25 Pay-to-Play fee, and $75 for the uniform and member shirt. At $100 total, this is an extremely low member fee compared to other competitive units. Payments will be made to the front office at SMS starting January 21, 2020 and will be due January 24, 2020 . Please reach out to me directly if you need to setup a payment arrangement.
