Dear Parents,

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Every student has their band warm-up book. We use the book all four years and regularly during class time. Students also have their three ring black binder, this is great! Students need to continue to develop regular practice habits. Please have your child designate a set time everyday to practice for 20-30 minutes on scales and music. Many of our students have instruments that are in need of being serviced by a music store. Just like a car needs an oil change your child’s instrument needs a regular tune up to help it work at the level we need it to perform. Please visit a local music store for a tune up.

Cell Phones:
I have been seeing a trend of students on their phones during rehearsals in the evenings. Students have a water break or bathroom break every 25-30 minutes. They may check their phones at that time but please do not call your child during rehearsal. Each time they are on the phone it is distracting to the others around them attempting to hear instructions and follow directions. We need them focused during our time together.

Cost needs: Please make sure your child has the following things ASAP.
1. If you have not paid for marching shoes, gloves, blue t-shirt in the SHS front office do so now! I will be handing out shoes soon.  shoes ($40), shirt($12) and gloves($5)
2. Pay band fee to the boosters, this covers meals, enrichment instruction and some show cost. https://www.sahuaritamusic.org/category/fees/

Friday, Aug 20 Rehearsal  3:45-5 music, 5-6 dinner break tailgate for students!, 7:15pm Friends and Family Show on the Football Field, we can’t wait to perform for you!
Monday, Aug. 23 Rehearsal 5:45-8:15, students may stay after to be on time, please pick them up no later than 8:30 by the band room
Friday, Aug. 27 Rehearsal  3:45-5pm music, 5-6 dinner break (on their own) 6-9pm on field

We have 3-4 parents at this point receiving the trailer training to drive for our marching band shows, thank you so much for everyone that is interested.  We will not turn anyone away that wants to help. I still need someone to pick up the props in Tempe, AZ as soon as possible. Please let me know if you are heading up to Phoenix/Tempe in the next week or so and are willing to help us get the props here.
